The Importance of the Chief-And-VP-of-Marketing
Chief and VP of Marketing are positions held by the chief-and-vp-of-marketing in the marketing management firm. Typically, they serve as a chief marketing officer for a company, with responsibility for strategy, vision, and execution. In this role, the CMO will coordinate and execute marketing programs and activities. These include managing a company’s brand and promotional activities; building and managing an effective marketing management plan; implementing marketing strategies across the company; creating and monitoring marketing campaigns; and evaluating marketing performance. Typically, a CMO will report directly to the CEO.
There are two major functions that a chief-and-vp-of-marketing fills at a marketing management firm. The first is as a chief marketing officer, which requires that he or she manage a number of marketing functions within the company. This includes planning and executing marketing campaigns, such as those that target potential clients and customers; working with the organization’s advertising agency, and working with internal departments to implement effective tracking and measurement techniques. In addition, he or she will often be responsible for overseeing the company’s overall reputation and image.
The second main function is as a marketing manager. In this position, a chief-and-vp-of-marketing plays an even larger role, delegating various responsibilities to his or her lieutenants. This includes strategy and planning, as well as managing day-to-day marketing functions, such as the creation and maintenance of a company website. A marketing manager will also report directly to the CMO, while concurrently reporting to and supervising the chief-and-vp-of-marketing. In some cases, this level of control may also be required when the marketing manager oversees the operations of a third-party company, such as a boutique lending company.
Depending upon the size and scope of a chief-and-vp-of-marketing department, he or she may also be responsible for overseeing other marketing staff. This includes employees that handle different areas of customer service, such as customer service representatives and cashiers. These employees will typically be responsible for answering customer inquiries and assisting with placing an initial order. In addition, marketing managers will often be responsible for supervising store merchandising staff, as well as having the authority to hire and terminate employees. For chief-and-vp-of-marketing positions in large companies, he or she may also have the authority to hire other chief-and-vp-of-marketing employees to assist in these functions, as well as being responsible for approving the hiring of sub-contracting vendors.
The chief-and-vp-of-marketing role is one of the most important overall roles within a marketing manager’s job description. His or her duties include supervising sales staff, supervisory staff, and marketing managers who are responsible for signing new contracts and approving new advertising campaigns. Ultimately, the chief-and-vp-of-marketing must find the best ways to foster growth within the company. A chief-and-vp-of-marketing must be a skilled planner and manager and should be able to work well with a variety of personalities.
Some chief-and-vp-of-marketing positions may be advertised in newspapers or websites. In most cases, however, the chief-and-vp-of-marketing will begin his or her career by working as a field associate. Field associates work under the supervision of a marketing manager. Usually, field associates have little or no direct supervision but are responsible for performing a variety of duties, from greeting customers to handling various promotional items.
